Costume Crop!

In addition to all this tomfoolery (Word-of-the-Day toilet paper...just kidding! Shameless "Friends" episode reference...!), our attendees DID actually get some pages done!!! Our customers are SO talented--and ready to trick-or-treat, as you can see!

Congrats to Lelia Mc--her name was drawn in the blog-post contest from last week! She has a bag of scrappy Halloween goodies waiting for her at the store.

Don't forget that the "What's Cookin?" Recipe Binder Workshop and Potluck Dinner are this Saturday, November 1st, at 5:30. The cost is only $18! This easy-to-add-to binder would make a great gift for a new bride or any young adults just starting
out--or as a great addition to your own kitchen! Scrapping AND eating--what could be better? Call the store, e-mail, or come by to sign up! =)

Updates

The Costume Crop is this Saturday, October 25th, from 10 till 6. If you dress up for Halloween, you get an extra-special discount on your purchases that day! =) Call the store, come by, or send us an e-mail to sign up.

The Cookbook Binder Workshop is next Saturday, November 1st, at 5:30. The cost is $18. If you are participating, please e-mail us the recipe(s) you are making for the potluck dinner. I will print them on cardstock and put them in the binder kits. The night of the workshop, we'll eat (and take pictures of the dishes beforehand for your binders, if you'd like) and then work on our binders using page sketches and the materials in the kits. The binders hold 8 1/2 x 11 sheet protectors (10 are in each kit) and have 1 1/2" rings. The binder covers can be decorated. Extra sheet protectors, sticker sheets, and papers will be available for purchase. These binders would be practical additions to your own kitchen, or make great gifts for new brides or other young adults just getting out on their own. Bring your favorite adhesive, your trimmer, your camera, and of course your yummy dish!

Tracy's Christmas Card Class is also coming up on November 22nd at 10 a.m. The cost is only $15. The cards are shown above--how cute are they?

See our family blog (linked on the right) for pics of Christen receiving her award yesterday...=)

Ideas...

I was just perusing some scrappy blogs (the educated-sounding word means that I was NOT just wasting time goofing off on the Internet...) and I had an idea. I would like to link our customers' blogs to the store blog, to help us get to know one another, to share inspiration, etc. I already have some blog links on my family blog, but not here. Whatdya think?

If you have a blog and you would like to be included in our list, send me an e-mail with your URL and I will link ya up!

Also...the Mixer that I mentioned in one of our recent newsletters has been tentatively scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2009. We will have a potluck dinner, followed by...looking at each other's scrapbooks! We don't take credit for this wonderful idea--it was our customer Emily who thought of it (thanks, girl!). None of us get to share our work or chat with other scrappers nearly enough, so we thought we would carve out some time to do just that! We'll use the dance studio so we'll have plenty of space. And of course, bring your cameras...more details later!

Tell us what you think in a comment to this post by Saturday, 10/25, and you'll be registered for a drawing for some scrappy Halloween treats!

P.S. The re-order on the Alabama papers, kits, and sticky emblems came in today!
Roll Tide!!!

Fun New Stuff!

Teresa Collins' Christmas die cuts and 8 x 8 papers are in! They are too cute! If you like her products, you really should visit her blog. You can see what SHE does with these goodies at www.teresacollinsdesigns.com.

I finally broke down and ordered some chalk sets and accessories...they had been on my list of "must-haves" for a while, but I have recently been seeing so much Halloween and Christmas stuff that we just HAD to have, that I'd just put chalk on the back burner. Sorry, chalkers! We have JUST what you need now!

And the Spaceboy and Youth stuff that we ordered from Prima finally came in! (Love ya, Prima, but you're slow to fill orders...) The paint can above is decorated with some of the Spaceboy goodies. Yes, Ro, that has Drew's name on it. I was looking for an excuse to play with some of the boy papers, so he's getting a gift card in that can for a b'day present...=)!

Call, e-mail, or come by to sign up for Kay's class this Saturday! And don't forget about the costume crop on 10/25...no, you DON'T have to dress up--but think how much fun that would be...!

Come see us!

Miscellaneous Post...

How great is this little album (first pic)? The picture doesn't do it justice--you've GOT to see it in person! It's the project for Kay's Primitive Pumpkin Album Class, which is this Saturday, October 18th, at 10 a.m. There are still some spots left! The cost is $22. With paid class fee, you also get 10% off your product purchases and free use of the tool room that day! Call or come by the store by Thursday afternoon to sign up.

We have several mini-album and project kits for sale at the store right now, and more on the way! Above you'll see a few peeks of the kits we have ready at this point. Many of them utilize shapes we have on the Accu-Cut machine. Remember you can use the tool room any day for a $5.00 fee--you can stay as long as you want!
Several of you have also asked about the acrylic paint cans used in the Halloween Treat Can Class last month...we have several small cans left, but no large ones.

The picture of Chrissi at the table is from the Expo at which we exhibited last Thursday. We had a great time and met SO many nice people there!

My Mind's Eye "Be Merry" papers and alphas are in--they are too cute! (Who doesn't love snowmen?) MME also has four new "Laundry Line" kits, which contain glittered papers and accents--so cool! Come see them!

Our Costume Crop has been changed to Saturday, October 25th, from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m. The cost is $15. If you dress up for Halloween, you get 20% off your purchases that day! Call or come by the store to sign up.

Guest Designer for October

Jan, who has now taught her second class for the store, is our very talented (and very sweet!) guest designer for the month. I know the picture of her info LO has a reflection of the overhead light on it, but I didn't realize it until JUST now--so please forgive the terrible photography! I didn't want to wait any longer to post a picture of Jan's little corner in our store. She's the best!

Our Costume Crop is this Saturday...if we can get enough croppers! Let me know if you are coming--there's a special treat for croppers who wear their costumes...=)

VOTE!!!

The deadline to register to vote in the state of Alabama is October 24th. And I know that this has absolutely nothing to do with the store, but if you don't mind indulging me, I believe it's worth mentioning...

We all remember learning in school about the battle waged by countless men and women just a little over 40 years ago to win voting rights and other basic civil liberties for black Americans. Particularly in the South, where much of this history was made, we are often reminded of the atrocities of the struggle even as adults, as we view television or read the newspaper. I have to wonder--without taking anything away from the valiant fight waged during the Civil Rights Movement of the 60's, of course--why we are not reminded of the fight just 90 years ago for the voting rights of female Americans? I barely remember anything about it from history class, I never hear stories about milestone anniversaries pertaining to it on the news...yet women were disowned by their families, tortured by police, committed to mental institutions, and some were even killed in the struggle to gain the right to vote in an election in the United States of America.

What would these brave women think of us if we neglected this right just because we were too busy, or didn't feel like it, or didn't think our opinions mattered? I don't believe I could do what they did to fight for this right--I don't believe I'm made of the stuff they were made of. I would be dishonoring their sacrifices if I didn't go to the polls every chance I had to let my voice be heard.

Christen and I will be honoring those sacrifices when we cast our votes on Election Day.

You can too.
